Honestly how hot are we talking?
We have been monitoring the heat all summer and it has had some shocking weeks over 40 degrees. However, we’ve gone as close to September as possible and interestingly the desert is usually about 10 degrees cooler than the strip. We’re expecting(praying) for 33-35 degrees for the ceremony, but we’ll keep it as quick as possible, and the rest of the day will be in air conditioning!
Where is the Red Rock Casino in relation to Vegas strip?
Red Rock Casino is 20 minutes by car /taxi from Harry Reid Airport. It’s also about a 20-minute drive to get to either the Las Vegas strip or Fremont Street (the old town with more retro casinos).
Are there room blocks/discounted rates?
We have currently blocked 10 rooms for $199 (USD) on the 28th Aug and $219 (USD) on the 29th which can be booked via a link that we will share with those who RSVP that they plan to stay at Red Rock Casino. These rates exclude taxes and a daily resort fee which will need to be paid on arrival which we estimate to be about $50 USD per night. In comparison, we are seeing a rate of $300 on hotels.com so the block booking is likely to be the best rate.
We didn’t want to be presumptuous with the number of guests that will travel but we can add more rooms to the block booking. You will also be able to book other nights through the link. If we know that a lot of guests are coming for additional nights, we can agree on a lower rate with the hotel for alternative nights so please let us know your rough plans in the RSVP.
Will I need a car?
Red Rock Canyon is a 10mins drive from Red Rock Casino. Transportation to the canyon will be organised on the wedding day from the Red Rock Casino. If we go on any trips to the strip or Fremont Street, we will likely Uber, so you do not need a car, however...The Red Rock Canyon itself has a gorgeous 13-mile scenic drive and the Valley of Fire is one hour away so a car is definitely useful to see some gorgeous sites but you don’t need to have a car to enjoy yourself.
Is Red Rock close to Hoover Dam or Grand Canyon?
Hoover Dam is about 45mins drive and that’s on the tip of Lake Mead. The Grand Canyon depends on if you’re going to the North or South Rim and it’s about 4-5 hours away by car. The South Rim is the more common tourist spot. They recommend 4-5 days to really do both rims, but there are many companies that do a day trip from Vegas if that’s more your jam.
How long will we be in Vegas for?
Flights are pending but we plan to travel to Vegas on the 25th of August and will be leaving to start our honeymoon starting in the Grand Canyon on the 31st of August. We will be staying at Red Rock for the entirety of this time.
Can we come with you to the GC?
Convoy away! We’ll be heading to Grand Canyon South Rim on the 31 st of August – via Hoover dam and Lake Mead – driving time about 5hours all up.
We’ll then spend two days on the south Rim and will then be going onto the rest of our desert honeymoon. We’re more than happy to have people join us as far as the Grand Canyon/Sedona but we won’t be going back to Vegas for two weeks, so you’ll need your own transport to get back to any kind of city with an airport. If the GC is down your alley let us know and we’ll share details of hotels etc that we’re planning.
Will there be any other things planned other than on the wedding day?
Depending on when people are planning to arrive, we may organise other activities (a stag night, Dune buggies (looking at you Deb), a show on the strip, a girlies spa day, bride v groom bowling comp, dinner on Thursday night) but we will confirm details when we know what travel plans are from the group. There is no obligation to attend any extra events.
I may have a child in tow is that ok?
We understand it’s a long way to go when you have wee ones that need you. Please let us know if
you will be travelling with any Bebe’s so we can work out the right accommodations.
Do you have a gift registry?
Absolutely not! Destination weddings are already an extravagant ask so we really mean it when we say your presence is the present. Any cash will just be lost on the Blackjack table anyway so don’t waste it on us!
